Competitive Eating!?!?
Every 4th of July, Nathan's Hot Dogs holds the Super Bowl of Competitive Eating: the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog eating contest in Coney Island. This contest is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating and Major League Eating, but really, they probably couldn't do anything if you formed a competing federation.
History
For the last zillion years, one tiny Japanese man, Takeru Kobayashi, ruled over us all
as the proverbial godzilla of the sport.
A new challenger emerges
Where Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, Eric "Badlands" Booker, and Charles "Hungry" Hardy (the new commissioner of Major League Eating) have failed, in the distance loomed one Joey Chestnut.
Chestnut
While Kobayashi set the world record last July with 53 1/4 Hot Dogs in 12 minutes (beating Chestnut's 52), Chestnut shattered the record with 59 at a qualifying event. Complicating things more for Kobayashi, he was recently dealing with a seriously jaw injury. Some conjectured that Kobayashi was simply playing possum for Chestunt in another example of Japanese Trickery
WOULD OUR AMERICAN HERO PREVAIL?
The Moment of Truth
66 HOTDOGS. THAT JUST HAPPENED.
The Future
They're fighting again next week in a P-Zone eating contest. Seriously. GBS just had a heart attack.
